Constructs of Korean elderly`s successful aging and effects of perceived health

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to figure out constructs network of Korean elderly¡¯s successful aging. Especially we investigated the moderating role of the perceived health factor from the biomedical model of successful aging. To investigate the cause and effect of factors, we conveniently collected 315 samples from 4 senior welfare centers in Jeonju and exploited SEM(Structural equation modeling) for 297 cases excluding some cases with missing values. As the results, first, we confirmed the directions and the degree of effects among various constructs of successful ageing. Second, the unhealthy group showed higher tendency than the health group that autonomy influences the satisfaction for their children. Third, the unhealthy group is prone to be that personal growth influences the active social interaction. Fourth, according to moderating role of perceived health, the healthy group has a tendency to show that the active social interaction influences self-acceptance. The study suggests, first, developing a successful aging scale for Korean elderly including health factor is recommended. Second, an unhealthy group¡¯s construct sensitively affects another construct, so that the unhealthy group is harder to achieve the successful aging than the healthy group. Third, the confirmed constructs network provide a criteria, to who works in an elderly care setting, such as the contents of program and priority of the contents.
